Executive Director Job Description
Location: Remote within British Columbia (regular travel required)
Open to: Residents of BC and Alberta
Position: Full-Time
Salary: $125 – 185,000 annually, with the opportunity to earn the maximum through performance-based incentives tied to membership growth.
About the Role
Forestry Works for BC is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to improving public understanding of forestry in British Columbia. Through authentic stories, respectful conversations and community engagement, we help British Columbians better understand the role responsible forestry plays in healthy forests, wildfire resilience, sustainable communities and livelihoods.
We’re entering an exciting growth phase and are looking for a relationship-driven Executive Director to lead the organization and significantly expand our membership across the province.
This is a leadership role with a strong sales and business development focus. Growing Forestry Works for BC’s membership is the Executive Director’s primary responsibility and the organization’s number one strategic priority.
While the position includes leadership, communications and operational responsibilities, success in this role depends on building relationships, recruiting new individual and business members, developing partnerships and growing the organization’s long-term financial sustainability.
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and serves as the organization’s senior operational leader and public representative.
Key Responsibilities
Membership Growth (Primary Responsibility)
- Lead and execute a province-wide membership growth strategy.
- Recruit new members.
- Strengthen member engagement and retention.
- Build partnerships that expand the organization’s reach and impact.
- Identify new revenue opportunities that support long-term sustainability.
Leadership & Public Engagement
- Lead implementation of the organization’s strategic plan.
- Support the Board of Directors in achieving long-term priorities.
- Serve as the public face and spokesperson for Forestry Works for BC.
- Build relationships with communities, industry, government and stakeholders across British Columbia.
- Represent the organization at meetings, conferences and public events.
- Work closely with the organization’s communications contractor to support strategic communications and outreach.
Operations
- Oversee budgeting, financial management and administration.
- Manage contractors, consultants and service providers.
- Ensure organizational compliance and effective governance.
- Provide regular operational and financial updates to the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who has:
- A proven track record in sales, business development or membership growth. You have successfully recruited members, customers, donors or clients and consistently achieved growth targets.
- Strong relationship-building and networking skills with the confidence to ask for the sale.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Experience leading organizations, teams or major initiatives.
- Strong strategic thinking, organizational and financial management skills.
Assets
- Experience working in sales, membership organizations or associations.
- Knowledge of BC’s forestry sector, natural resources or rural economic development.
- Experience with fundraising or sponsorship development.
- Experience working in the nonprofit sector.
