Meet Our Member – Gary Burns

Gary Burns has lived and worked on his woodlots in the Slocan Valley since the 1970s. Over that time, he’s seen forests change, recover and renew, again and again.

In this reel, Gary shares what it means to care for the land over the long term. From replanting and forest health planning to protecting wildlife values and water quality, his approach reflects a deep understanding of forests as living, dynamic systems.

Gary also speaks to one of the most common misconceptions about forestry – that harvesting means the end of a forest. His experience tells a different story: forests regenerate, grow back and continue to support ecosystems, communities and livelihoods when they’re responsibly managed.
