Bringing Together the Voices That Help Shape BC’s Forestry Story

Honest Conversations About the Forests, Communities and Future We Share.

We started Forestry Works for BC because too many British Columbians felt confused, overwhelmed or skeptical about forestry, and we knew there had to be a more human and honest way to talk about responsible forestry. If you care about climate action, wildfire resilience, healthy communities and a sustainable future for British Columbia, you’re in the right place. Our work is designed to help you understand how responsible forestry supports the values you already hold, and why it matters for the province we all share.

We’re a grassroots, nonprofit organization made up of everyday British Columbians: workers, teachers, parents, small business owners, Indigenous leaders, community champions and people like you who want honest, accessible information about how forestry fits into BC’s future.

How We Began

Forestry Works for BC started when a small group of forest professionals, community members and local leaders realized most British Columbians were only hearing one side of the forestry story. One that is often negative, sensationalized and not reflective of modern, responsible practices.

But when we listened more closely, we discovered something important: most people weren’t anti-forestry. They were simply unsure and disconnected.

Rather than create another industry-driven campaign, we built something different, something
British Columbians could actually trust: a grassroots, community-led, transparent movement focused on education, storytelling and shared values.

What began as volunteers trying to counter misinformation has grown into a province-wide society dedicated to helping people see the whole picture of forestry: the science, the stewardship, the innovation and the people.

Why We Exist

Public conversations about forestry can feel polarized, confusing and exhausting. You’ve probably seen the headlines, the arguments, the old narratives. But the reality is more complex, and far more hopeful.

Most British Columbians (about 80%) aren’t firmly “for” or “against” forestry. They’re simply unsure, seeking clarity or carrying outdated information. Our work focuses on this majority—people who want to understand what’s true, what’s changing and what responsible forestry actually looks like today.

We created Forestry Works for BC because:

  • You deserve trustworthy, understandable information without jargon or defensiveness.
  • You want to know how forestry intersects with the issues that matter most: climate resilience, wildfire risk, affordable housing, sustainable materials, biodiversity and strong local economies.
  • You want stories from real people, not industry talking points.
  • You want to know your voice matters.

We’re here to help you connect the dots, with transparency and real-world stories that reflect life in BC today.

What We Do

We educate. With clarity, honesty and heart.

Forestry can be complex. We make it understandable. Our videos, reels, articles and member stories break down how modern forestry works and how it contributes to solutions BC needs now, from wildfire preparedness to renewable building materials.

We tell human stories.

Behind every replanting effort, engineered wood product, wildfire prevention project or sawmill are real people who care deeply for the land. Their stories help you see forestry through a human lens; one rooted in responsibility and stewardship.

We build bridges, not battles.

We don’t lobby. We don’t engage in political fights. We create space for informed, respectful dialogue while shifting conversations away from conflict and toward shared understanding.

We amplify community voices.

From local leaders and mayors to Indigenous partners and small business owners to forestry-aligned workers and citizens, we amplify perspectives that are working to help rebuild trust across BC.

Where We’re Headed

We’re just getting started. We’re creating content, growing our reach, sharing meaningful stories and giving members a true voice in the future of forestry.

Our long-term vision is a BC where:

  • You feel proud of the forestry sector’s contributions.
  • You trust that forestry can align with your values for sustainability, climate action and responsible land management.
  • You see forestry as a partner in building the province’s future.
  • You feel informed enough to speak confidently about forestry in your community.

This is a long-term effort built on steady storytelling, member involvement, community partnerships and meaningful education. Together, we can move the needle.

How We’re Governed

Strong governance is at the heart of Forestry Works for BC. As a registered BC society, we’re guided by a Board of Directors whose experience spans communities, forestry, stewardship and local leadership. Their role is to ensure our work stays transparent, community-led and aligned with our mission.

The Board oversees our strategic direction, budgets, organizational performance and overall accountability. With support from trusted legal and financial advisors, we operate with the integrity and clarity British Columbians expect from us.

Good governance helps us earn trust, and ensures that every story we share and every partnership we build reflects our commitment to honesty, responsibility and the long-term well-being of BC’s forests and communities.
