Our Story

BC’s forests are working right now for you. We are making green energy from trees to reduce the use of fossil fuels. We are using wood to construct buildings, instead of concrete or steel which must be mined. We use wood for everyday items (such as furniture and napkins), instead of plastics which come from fossil fuels. We are using more wood left over from harvesting and other treatments, instead letting it rot or burn, in order to make the air we breathe cleaner. We are restoring over-crowded forests to improve wildlife habitat. And these jobs support families, communities, and social services such as health and education. Forestry matters to every person in every corner of this province.

Using forests to grow the bioeconomy and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon society just makes sense socially, economically and environmentally!

Our Mission

Across British Columbia, we are coming together and rallying voices to work with government leaders across the province to ensure that BC’s forest sector is sustainable and thriving – for the health of our forests and the health of communities across the province.

About Us

Forestry Works for BC is a group of forest-based organizations and companies, representing more than 1,000 businesses engaged in all aspects of British Columbia’s forestry sector. We are proud to stand up for tens of thousands of workers and their families who are concerned about the future of forestry in British Columbia.

Governance

Forestry Works for BC (FWFBC) is a society registered in the Province of British Columbia in accordance with the Societies Act (Society Act). The Board of Directors reflects a broad spectrum of the forest sector and each of the Directors brings a wealth of experience, deep knowledge and a strong track record of success. FWFBC is guided by the wise legal counsel of Miller Titerle (Home – MillerTiterle + Company) and assistance on financial matters is provided by Doane Grant Thornton (Castlegar | Doane Grant Thornton).

At Forestry Works for BC, strong governance is the foundation of our organization. Our Board is responsible for strategic oversight, ensuring that our mission aligns with the constitution. This includes approving multi-year strategic plans, reviewing annual budgets, monitoring organizational performance, and mitigating risks. Committed to ethical and transparent operations, the Board meets as needed throughout the year to fulfill these responsibilities.

Forestry is managing our precious forests in a manner that synergistically optimizes the achievement of a multitude of benefits—it’s an essential part of BC’s environmental and economic future. By managing our forests responsibly, we create jobs, improve wildlife habitat, maintain healthy ecosystems, reduce catastrophic wildfire risks, reduce greenhouse gasses, and support sustainable communities.
